Abstract

Back ground: Cervical cancer and human immunodeficiency virus prevention are public health priorities in Ethiopia. It ranks second in terms of cancer-related morbidity and death. HIVpositive women had a greater incidence of invasive cervical cancer and cervical cancer lesions. Accordingly, the purpose of this study is to evaluate the utilization of cervical cancer screening services and related variables among ART-using women. Objectives: To assess cervical cancer screening service utilization and associated factors among ART women in bole sub-city health center Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 2024. Methods: An institution-based cross-sectional study was conducted from April to May 30/2024 to assess the level and factors affecting utilization of cervical cancer screening among HIV positive women in Bole sub-city. The sample size was determined by using a single population proportion formula. Data was gathered using a structured and pretested questionnaire. Data analysis was conducted first by checking completeness of data, then entered into Epi-data and exported in to SPSS version 25 computer software for analysis. The association between the dependent variable and independent variables was analyzed using binary logistic regression at 95% confidence interval and variables with p-value ≤ 0.05 were considered as statistically significant to the dependent variable. Result: Less than half (43.7%) of the respondents were screened for cervical cancer and nearly half 206(51.1%) of the respondents have good knowledge towards cervical cancer screening. Age, income, husband’s educational status, knowledge, perceived susuptible and perceived severity were factors that affect the utilization of cervical cancer screening. Conclusion and recommendation: The prevalence of cervical cancer screening service utilization among women on ART was low as compared with the target which is set by Federal Ministry of Health (FMOH).Health education and counseling should be give special attention to change the attitude of the communities.
